The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, has stated that the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, has started to implement his threats after yesterday’s vote for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe. According to her, this is evidenced by the blocking of citizens on the border with Serbia.
“I am of the opinion that such an action has a reason based on yesterday. We are witness to Vucic’s threatening statements and he has threatened not only Kosovo, but also international partners that the vote for Kosovo will have consequences.
In this context, I see the ban on travelers there. Not only in the bus, but also in cars and especially the detention of many Police officials.
From the direct conversations we have had with travelers there, we know that the rights of our citizens have been massively violated.
Many of them, when they are interviewed there, are forced to talk about the KLA soldiers, lest any of them are there”, stated Minister Gërvalla.
Gërvalla announced that he has met the ambassadors of QUINT, and the representative of the European Union, from whom they have asked for a clear and firm response.
“Today, with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçle, we met the ambassadors of QUINT and the representative of the EU in Kosovo. We have informed them as much as we have details, and we have asked for a clear and decisive reaction, not only to prevent such an action in the future but also to demonstrate a unity among the democratic factor towards the approach that Serbia has shown today .
Today, the agreement on mobility has also been violated, so we must be prepared and vigilant,” she said.
Gërvalla further said that he will not inform you if all the citizens who were trapped at the borders of Serbia have been released.
“A part of them have been released. We cannot give information that they have all been released. But we will give you the correct information when we verify all of them.
I am constantly calling to avoid going through Serbia because we cannot know what Vučić’s actions will be”, stated Gërvalla.
Asked if the deputy police director, who was reported to have been detained by the Serbian authorities, has been released, she said that they still do not have confirmed information on whether he has been released or not.
