Tensions across the Middle East are escalating again, with Iran warning that it will respond forcefully to any new U.S. attack on its interests, while Washington reports strikes against Iranian targets and Lebanon appeals to the international community to help halt Israeli attacks.
The developments come amid renewed fighting in Yemen and growing tensions in the West Bank, raising concerns that the conflict could expand further across the region.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had struck a U.S. aircraft carrier and a destroyer with ballistic missiles, saying both vessels were damaged and moved away from the area.
Tehran said the U.S. ships had been obstructing the movement of Iranian vessels and participating in a naval blockade.
The United States, meanwhile, said its forces had attacked three Iranian tankers, including one near Kharg Island, a strategically important hub for Iran’s oil exports.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that any attack against Iranian interests would receive a “strong and swift response.”
He also confirmed that Iranian forces had carried out attacks against U.S. bases.
Iranian Army Chief of Staff Ali Abdullahi, meanwhile, ruled out Tehran surrendering under U.S. pressure.
“The surrender of Iran to the United States is a vain dream that will never become reality,” he said.
Lebanon appeals for international intervention
In Lebanon, President Joseph Aoun called on the United States and the international community to help stop Israeli attacks following a series of strikes that have killed at least four people despite an existing ceasefire.
Aoun said the attacks had also damaged government buildings and destroyed a hospital that was not operational. He described the situation as a dangerous escalation and urged international actors to intervene.
Netanyahu orders removal of some West Bank settlements
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also ordered the dismantling of several Jewish outposts in the West Bank that are considered illegal under Israeli law.
According to Reuters, the decision comes as Israel faces pressure from the United States over violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has described violent settlers as terrorists and called for tougher measures against those responsible.
Heavy fighting continues in Yemen
Meanwhile, fighting continues in Yemen between pro-government forces and the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
Sources on both sides said clashes in the southwestern part of the country have resulted in more than 140 casualties.
The fighting, which resumed in July, has further drawn Yemen into the wider regional conflict involving multiple Middle Eastern countries.
The simultaneous developments in Iran, Lebanon, Israel, the West Bank and Yemen underscore the growing risk of a broader regional escalation, as military confrontations and retaliatory threats continue across several fronts.
