At the recommendation of the President of the Islamic Community of Kosovo, the Grand Mufti Naim ef. Tërnava, part of today’s Friday sermon was dedicated to the killing of the Kosovo Police officer, Mr. Muhamed Lika.
During this sermon, the act of killing the former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army and current police officer was strongly condemned, while also calling upon the justice and security institutions to clarify the circumstances of the murder as soon as possible and ensure that the perpetrator(s) face the deserved punishment.
Below is the full text of the sermon:
Dear brothers in faith,
The killing of Kosovo Police officer and former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Mr. Muhamed Lika, was a shocking and deeply condemnable act which has struck not only the public order and security but also the very moral foundations of our society and country.
What makes this crime even more dangerous is the attempt to justify it through religious narratives – a method that has been repeatedly used by various criminal groups around the world.
Some exploit and misuse national symbols, others hide behind religious, humanitarian principles, or so-called “higher” ideals, abusing collective emotions in an effort to legitimize their heinous and criminal actions.
Dear believers,
Crime knows no ideals. It has no religion, no nation, and no principle. Such criminals wear many masks. Therefore, it is the duty of all of us – primarily the institutions, civil society, and every citizen – to expose these individuals and not allow society’s wounds to be exploited by those who seek to destabilize and harm us and our country.
The voice of law and justice must be stronger than any attempt to undermine it. We must all support our institutions in uncovering the truth and bringing justice to light.
We believe that premature statements about the case, as well as attempts to tie this brutal crime to so-called religious motives, serve only the interests of the perpetrator(s).
In fact, their primary goal remains to cover the crime with false narratives – in this case, under the name of the pure Islamic faith.
The best way to support our institutions is to follow official statements. Any other reporting or attempts to investigate the case outside the institutions – especially by those who are not mandated to do so – could seriously jeopardize the investigation, the arrest of additional suspects, the outcome of the case, and Kosovo’s national interest.
Dear believers,
The Islamic Community of Kosovo, through all its institutions, once again strongly condemns this murder. We extend our most sincere condolences to the family, relatives, and colleagues of officer Muhamed Lika. At the same time, we appeal to the institutions of justice and security to urgently clarify the circumstances of this crime and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
We pray that such acts of violence and murder never again occur in our country!
