International media have reported that Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire agreement following a 15-month conflict that claimed tens of thousands of lives and shook the Middle East.
The Israeli government is expected to vote on the agreement on Thursday.
In response, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, welcomed the ceasefire and the release of hostages.
“This is a significant and positive step towards ending the violence,” said Borrell.
“Now is the time to offer this agreement to all hostages and their families, the people of Gaza, and the people of the region,” Kallas said in a post on platform X.
The deal, which has not yet been finalized, is said to include an initial six-week ceasefire phase and involves a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, as well as the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners detained by Israel, a senior official told Reuters.
