Central Election Commission Collects First Ballot Packages from Diaspora

The Central Election Commission (KQZ) of Kosovo has commenced the retrieval of ballot packages sent by diaspora voters through postal services in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections on February 9, 2025.

As of January 23, 2025, the KQZ has collected 6,054 ballot packages from Stuttgart, Germany; 80 packages from Podgorica, Montenegro; and 712 packages from Vienna, Austria.

In line with established procedures, these packages were transported to Kosovo’s diplomatic and consular missions under strict security measures, including 24-hour surveillance in secured rooms. Representatives from political parties, accredited observers, and diplomatic staff were present to oversee the process.

Next Steps

The KQZ will periodically retrieve additional packages from designated postal boxes in 22 countries, ensuring diaspora voters can participate. Upon arrival in Kosovo, the packages undergo a verification process to confirm voter registration and compliance with electoral guidelines.

The vote counting will occur at the Counting and Results Center after election day, under the supervision of accredited observers.

The postal voting period for Kosovo citizens living abroad concludes on February 8, 2025, a day before the elections.

Kosovo continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring inclusive democratic processes by facilitating postal voting for its global diaspora.
