A Kosovo court has reopened judicial proceedings in the war crimes case against Milorad Đoković, who is accused of committing war crimes against the civilian population during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war.
According to the indictment, Đoković is charged with participating in a campaign of violence against Albanian civilians in the village of Ozdrim, in the municipality of Peja, as well as in other villages across the Peja region, while serving as a member of Serbian police and military forces.
Prosecutors allege that Đoković took part in acts including killings, house raids, beatings, abuse, arbitrary arrests, torture, cruel and inhumane treatment, unlawful detention under conditions amounting to slavery, and the forced displacement and deportation of dozens of Albanian civilians.
The indictment further accuses him of looting, burning, and destroying homes belonging to the Albanian civilian population in the Peja area.
With the decision to reopen the judicial proceedings, the trial will continue with the presentation of evidence and further court procedures as the case moves forward.
