Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said he asked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to support Kosovo’s integration into several European organizations and frameworks during their meeting in Prishtina.

Speaking at a joint press conference with von der Leyen, Kurti thanked the European Commission president for her support for Kosovo and its citizens, saying the country had made progress in several areas since her previous visit.

“While there are electoral autocracies in our region of Southeast Europe, we have electoral democracy. Our elections are free, and they should be held once every four years, not twice in one year,” Kurti said.

Kurti also highlighted what he described as Kosovo’s achievements over the past year and said the country was aligned with European Union values.

“We uphold the values of Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, and our citizens’ support for EU membership remains the highest in the region, immediately after Albania,” he said.

Kurti said that during his meeting with von der Leyen, he also requested Kosovo’s accession to the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure.

“I also asked for Kosovo’s integration into European standardization organizations and into the European accreditation framework,” the prime minister said.
