The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, stated that Kosovo is in the process of finalizing mutual recognition of driver’s licenses with Canada and Turkey.

Kurti made these comments during a Government meeting, where he also announced that, starting next month, a regulation change regarding driver’s licenses will come into effect in Austria.

Kurti said that the diplomatic service is being put at the service of citizens and the diaspora.

“Our ministries have been continuously engaged in improving and digitizing services for our diaspora. One of the biggest facilitations is the recognition of Kosovo driver’s licenses in the countries where they live and work. This not only reduces costs and saves time but also enables quicker integration into the workforce. Initially, Germany was the first to recognize our driver’s licenses when the agreement came into force in April 2023, and around 30,000 of our compatriots have converted their driver’s licenses through this agreement,” Kurti said.

“Last month, the agreement with Italy for the recognition of driver’s licenses came into effect, and starting next month, as announced by our embassy in Austria, a change in the regulation for driver’s licenses will ease the conversion procedure for Kosovo citizens. We are in the process of finalizing mutual recognition of driver’s licenses with Canada and Turkey. More and more, we are putting our diplomatic service at the service of citizens and compatriots,” Kurti added.
