Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri have been honored with major football awards in Switzerland, recognizing their outstanding performances for club and country.

Granit Xhaka was named Switzerland’s Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive time, continuing his dominant run as captain and key figure of the national team. He was praised for leading Switzerland to its sixth consecutive World Cup appearance and for his leadership at club level, where he continues to perform at a high standard in the Premier League with Sunderland.

The Swiss Football Federation highlighted Xhaka’s consistency and leadership qualities, noting his immediate impact after returning to England from Bayer Leverkusen, where he was appointed captain of his new club.

Meanwhile, Xherdan Shaqiri was named the best player in the Swiss Super League for 2025, following a standout season with Basel after his return to Swiss football. He delivered an impressive record of 13 goals and 13 assists in just 20 league matches, playing a decisive role in Basel’s title challenge.

According to reports, Shaqiri’s performances were marked by creativity, technical quality, and leadership, making him one of the most influential players in Swiss football in recent years.

Other awards included Valon Fazliu, who was named the best player in Switzerland’s second division for the second consecutive year, and Geraldine Reuteler, who was recognized as the best female footballer for the second straight year.

The Swiss Football Federation confirmed that the awards cover the 2025 season, with the ceremony delayed due to a tragedy in Crans-Montana earlier this year.
