The President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, has said that communications are ongoing to extend the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

This comes ahead of a second round of talks scheduled for Thursday in Washington, D.C., following a 10-day temporary ceasefire that entered into force on April 16.

In a post on X, Aoun said the discussions are based on key demands, including a complete halt to Israeli hostilities, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, the return of prisoners, the deployment of the Lebanese army along international borders, and the start of reconstruction of war-damaged areas.

He stressed that Lebanon’s position on negotiations is “clear: no concessions, no bargaining, and no surrender,” except what guarantees sovereignty and national interests.

According to his office, U.S. support has provided Lebanon with a “window of opportunity that must not be missed.”
