The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has strongly reacted to the tariffs imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, emphasizing that he is in full agreement with the leaders of the European Union that “nothing is off the table” in response to Trump’s actions, as “all options are on the table.”
In a public statement, Macron stressed that Europe must act with effective and proportional measures but also send a clear message that it will not allow sectors of the economy to become victims of these tariffs.
“We must do everything that is effective and proportionate, but also show clearly that we are determined not to let these sectors become victims of these tariffs,” he said.
The French President also mentioned the possibility of intervening in the digital services sector, an area where the United States benefits greatly from Europe.
Macron also suggested a review of French investments in the United States until the tariffs are clarified.
He called for unity among the European Union leaders, encouraging them not to fall into the temptation of isolated actions but to leverage the size of the European market to formulate a strong response.
In a speech given on Thursday, Macron referred to Trump’s decision as “brutal and unfounded,” expressing concern about the massive impact the tariffs will have on France, its overseas territories, and Europe as a whole.
