The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, has stated that Ukraine might have to relinquish some of its territory as part of a peace deal with Russia, amid growing pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to accept territorial concessions.
“One of the scenarios is… to give up territory. It’s not fair. But for peace, a temporary peace, maybe that could be a solution – a temporary one,” he told the BBC.
However, he emphasized that Ukrainians “would never accept occupation” by Russia.
Klitschko further added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky might be forced to make “painful decisions” in order to achieve peace.
When asked if Zelensky had discussed the matter with him, he responded, “No.”
“President Zelensky does that himself. That’s not my function,” he said.
