In a major expansion of its defense infrastructure, Albania has officially inaugurated its National Flight School at the Air Force Command in Rinas. Operating under strict NATO standards, the school is positioned to become a regional training hub.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that Tirana will extend a formal invitation to the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), offering Kosovo’s future pilots access to advanced certification programs.

A Regional NATO Training Center

The newly established academy is designed to systematically train military pilots and air traffic controllers, utilizing specialized methodologies developed alongside global defense leader Elbit Systems.

   • 25 active candidates in the launch program. • 5 fully certified pilots per year.
   • Covers both pilots & air traffic controllers. • Continuous training over a 5-year outlook.
   • Technical crews trained for Bell 505 helicopters. • Broadening access to regional NATO allies.

While Kosovo does not currently operate military airplanes or helicopters, its personnel routinely complete international flight programs. KSF personnel will now have the opportunity to complete their entire tactical training and receive NATO-certified credentials directly in Albania.

Substantial Boost in Defense Spending

The launch follows a swift restructuring of Albania’s national budget on June 30, which injected 10.3 billion Lek (approximately €110 million) in additional defense funding.

“For the defense sector, an additional 10.3 billion Lek is allocated, ensuring that defense financing reaches 2.6% of the Gross Domestic Product,” explained Finance Minister Petrit Malaj. “This aligns with our modernization objectives and the growing operational needs of our military.”

Strategic Objectives: The Road to 2030

The Flight School is part of an aggressive, long-term defense framework intended to position Albania as a self-reliant defense producer and regional training anchor.
