NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has strongly condemned Russia’s latest missile strike on Sumy, Ukraine, describing it as “simply brutal” and part of a “horrific pattern” of targeting civilian infrastructure. During his visit to Ukraine, Rutte reaffirmed NATO’s unwavering support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In a statement released by NATO, Rutte emphasized:
“The people of Ukraine deserve real peace and genuine security in their country. In their homes.”
He said his visit aimed to deliver a clear and simple message:
“NATO stands with Ukraine.”
Rutte also acknowledged recent doubts raised about NATO’s level of support:
“I know some have questioned NATO’s commitment over the past two months. But let there be no doubt—our support remains steadfast,” he said, as reported by The Guardian and relayed by Gazeta Express.
The NATO chief confirmed that he had discussed the ongoing efforts for peace with President Zelenskyy, including “the important talks being led by President Trump with both Ukraine and Russia to end the war and secure a lasting peace.”
