An event marking the establishment of the Nature Protection Guard was held at the National Library of Kosovo, attended by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla, and Environment Minister Fitore Pacolli.
Prime Minister Kurti said the initiative brings the state closer to the field and represents a new approach to environmental protection.
“The Guard is an expression of deep change a state that reacts and prevents in time. It serves as a preventive measure against damage that has already been caused. Nature has been a space without ownership, where the law has not prevailed. A Republic cannot be sustained in polluted air and degraded rivers. The Guard is an alliance between citizens and the state to prevent any damage,” Kurti said.
Environment Minister Fitore Pacolli said the Guard is a concrete instrument for preventing environmental crimes and announced the signing of a memorandum to establish it.
“We are building a new approach to nature as a shared asset. From today there are around 100 guardians, soon we will become 1,000 and why not even 90,000. This Guard is open to every citizen,” she said.
Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla added that the new mechanism aims to ensure that environmental abuses do not go without accountability and to strengthen prevention systems.
