California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced plans to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration over the recently imposed 10% tariffs on all imported goods into the United States.

In a statement, Newsom criticized President Donald Trump’s decision as unauthorized and damaging, particularly for California’s economy and its working families.

“These tariffs are creating chaos in California and threatening people’s jobs. American families can’t afford this continued instability,” Newsom declared.

The governor also urged foreign governments to exempt California exports from retaliatory tariffs, highlighting the state’s distinct economic profile and global trade partnerships.

According to the Associated Press, the lawsuit will ask the courts to immediately block the enforcement of the tariffs, challenging Trump’s legal authority to impose such broad economic measures without Congressional approval.

The announcement comes amid rising global concern, with countries like China calling the U.S. tariff exemptions “a small step” toward correcting past trade missteps, while Serbian businesses have also reported shock and uncertainty due to the ripple effects of the tariffs.
