Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader Bedri Hamza has declined Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s invitation for a political meeting, reaffirming that his party will remain in opposition under the current political circumstances.
In a letter addressed to Kurti and obtained by Gazeta Express, Hamza thanked the acting prime minister for the invitation but reiterated the position previously expressed by the PDK following their meeting on July 10.
“Dear Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Albin Kurti, thank you for your invitation to meet. Referring to our meeting on July 10, 2026, and the public position of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, I reaffirm that, under the current circumstances, our position is to continue remaining in the opposition,” Hamza wrote.
The PDK leader also called on Kurti and other parliamentary parties to fulfill their responsibility of establishing Kosovo’s new institutions following the June 7 parliamentary elections.
“We expect that, in accordance with the responsibilities arising from the June 7, 2026 elections, you, together with the other parties represented in the Assembly of Kosovo, will reach an agreement on the establishment of the country’s new institutions,” Hamza stated.
Hamza’s decision represents another setback for Kurti’s efforts to build political consensus after the elections. It follows the earlier rejection of Kurti’s invitation by the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), whose leader Ardian Gjini also declined to participate in consultations, maintaining that the party has no interest in joining the government.
Kosovo’s political parties remain engaged in negotiations over the formation of new state institutions, while uncertainty continues over whether sufficient parliamentary support can be secured to establish a new governing majority.
