A police officer was killed on Saturday after responding to an active shooter situation at a central Pennsylvania hospital. The gunman, who took medical staff hostage inside the intensive care unit, was later shot and killed by police.
According to Pennsylvania officials, the suspect entered the ICU and held hospital staff members hostage before law enforcement intervened. In the exchange of gunfire, two other police officers were wounded.
Authorities confirmed that the fallen officer had been responding to an emergency call for assistance when he was fatally shot.
Hospital officials stated that no patients were harmed during the incident. In response to the attack, the hospital urged off-duty staff members to remain at home on Saturday.
