Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has warned of the “real” threat of a conflict in Europe, stating that for the first time since the end of World War II, the continent has entered the “pre-war era”.

“War is no longer a concept of the past. It is real and started two years ago. The most worrying thing at the moment is that every scenario is possible. I have not seen such a situation since 1945,” Tusk said during an interview with the European media group, Lena, on March 29.

“I know it sounds terrible, especially for the younger generation, but we must accept the fact that the era of war has started: the pre-war era. I’m not exaggerating. Every day it becomes clearer.”

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began over two years ago, overturned the post-war sense of unshakable peace among European leaders, prompting many states to increase the production of weapons to supply both Kyiv and their own armies.

Former President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, whose country is one of the largest supporters of neighboring Ukraine, said that if Kyiv falls, “no one” in Europe will feel safe.

Poland borders Ukraine, and a day earlier, the Polish military announced it had activated its fighter jets following Russian attacks in Ukraine, which occurred near the border with Poland.
