Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani has expressed her support for the nationwide protest set to take place on October 17 in Tirana, held in solidarity with the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who are currently on trial at The Hague.

Osmani reaffirmed that the KLA’s war was just and liberating, emphasizing that Serbia was the aggressor during the last war in Kosovo.

“I support this protest and every protest that calls for justice. The citizens and Albanians have asked for nothing but justice — justice that respects the highest principles of human rights,” Osmani stated after visiting the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK).

She also highlighted that the former KLA leaders voluntarily appeared before international justice, demonstrating their trust in the judicial process.

“It has been five years of unwavering faith in international justice. As Kosovo’s institutions, we continuously demand respect for the highest human rights standards. I support our citizens whenever they protest for the protection of these standards,” she added.

President Osmani reiterated that the KLA’s war was defensive and fought for the freedom and safety of Kosovo’s people.

“The KLA’s war was a fight for freedom, for defending our people and liberating Kosovo from long-term occupation. It aimed to protect innocent civilians who were being killed and massacred by Serbian forces. For anyone who witnessed that war, it is clear — there was only one aggressor, Serbia, and only one victim, Kosovo,” Osmani declared.

She concluded by vowing to defend the justice of the KLA’s cause until the end, stressing that this is a fight for the dignity and freedom of the Kosovar people.
