Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that there is no possibility of reaching an agreement with Serbia on the future of Kosovo. In an interview with Greek television channel “MEGA,” Rama emphasized that while this disagreement remains, it should not prevent cooperation on other matters.
Using Albania-Serbia relations as an example, Rama noted that historical disputes should not be an obstacle to diplomatic engagement. He highlighted the importance of fostering friendly relations with as many countries as possible, despite existing political challenges.
“We have a major issue between us that has been a barrier for past governments to maintain relations. In reality, we had no relations. But Serbia is here, in the region, and has connections with our brothers in Kosovo. It is important for our relationship. After 68 years, I visited Belgrade. We have this dispute. There is no chance that we will agree on what the future of Kosovo is, but this should not stop us from doing other things,” Rama stated.
His remarks reflect a pragmatic approach to regional diplomacy, advocating for dialogue and cooperation despite ongoing disagreements over Kosovo’s status.
