Deputy Prime Minister in office, Emilja Rexhepi, stated that the VV (Vetëvendosje) is currently in discussions with NISMA about two or three candidates for the position of Speaker of the Parliament.

Rexhepi clarified that the current government has already resigned, and now it is up to the opposition to vote on the mandate report of the new deputies. This vote is crucial to initiate the formation of the new legislature.

Key Points:

  • Discussions on Candidates: Rexhepi confirmed that talks are ongoing with NISMA over the selection of potential candidates for the Speaker position. She emphasized that the exact number of names under consideration does not matter, stating that she would personally support any candidate chosen for the role.
  • Next Steps for the Opposition: The opposition is expected to vote tomorrow on the mandate report of the new parliamentarians. This vote will pave the way for the convening of the first constitutional session, a key step in moving forward with the formation of the new government.

Further Clarification from Rexhepi:

Government Transition: Rexhepi reiterated that while the current government has stepped down twice, once when the Central Election Commission registered the results, and again before the first constitutional session, it is essential that the opposition fulfill its role in this process.

Prime Minister’s Role: Rexhepi highlighted that the Prime Minister and other officials remain in their positions until the new government is formed and voted in by the Parliament. She clarified that the rule dictates the current Prime Minister stays in office until the new one is officially elected.
