Radio Free Europe (RFE) reports at least nine people were killed and 20 others injured in Russian attacks on southeastern Ukraine on Friday, according to regional officials.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, at least seven people were killed, said the region’s governor, Ivan Fedorov. He emphasized that the attack caused a fire at a vehicle repair garage. Four others were injured, including two children.

Several settlements also faced power outages following the strikes, Fedorov noted.

Meanwhile, another missile strike caused damage to an administrative building in Kryvyi Rih, a region in southeastern Ukraine, killing two people, said Governor Serhii Lysak. Emergency teams are continuing search operations at the scene, as one person remains missing, he added.

At least 16 others, including one child, were injured, the emergency services reported, adding that residential homes were also damaged during the attack.

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin refers to the conflict as a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine.

In response, the West has hit Russia’s economy with harsh sanctions. As a result of the war, thousands have died, and millions have been displaced from their homes.
