Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of violating the Easter ceasefire more than 2,000 times since the start of the day, despite a truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Citing a report from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Zelensky shared the data in a Facebook post, warning of Moscow’s continued military aggression.
Heavy Shelling and Drone Attacks Reported
From 8:00 PM on Sunday, April 20, Russian forces launched:
- 67 attacks on Ukrainian positions along the frontline,
- 1,355 artillery strikes, including 713 with heavy weaponry,
- and 673 FPV drone deployments.
The Pokrovsk sector was hit the hardest, indicating a focused escalation in that area.
“In reality, Russia has failed to uphold its ceasefire promise on nearly every front,” Zelensky stated.
Ukraine Pushes for 30-Day Ceasefire
President Zelensky said that no air raid alarms were recorded during the same period, calling it a potential model for a longer truce.
“Ukraine proposes a 30-day full ceasefire, including a ban on long-range drone and missile strikes on civilian infrastructure,” he said.
Zelensky emphasized that if Russia rejects this initiative, it would demonstrate its intent to prolong the war and cause more human suffering.
Background: Putin’s Easter Ceasefire
The ceasefire was announced by Putin on April 19, ahead of Orthodox Easter. However, Ukraine claims the declaration was not honored in practice.
