Russia’s foreign intelligence chief Sergei Naryshkin has accused NATO of preparing for a “major conflict in the East,” according to Russian state news agency RIA.
Naryshkin, who heads Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence service, claimed that the alliance is making practical preparations for such a confrontation.
He also alleged that the European Union is rapidly militarizing and transforming into a military alliance “directed against Russia.”
The remarks come amid continued tensions between Russia and the West following Moscow’s war against Ukraine, increased NATO deployments along the alliance’s eastern flank, and growing European defense spending.
