The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, declared during the speech from the Sorbonne that for the first time in the history of Europe, the war has changed the rules of the game: “It is being developed on the European continent by a nuclear power such as Russia”. “This previously unknown challenge has caught the Europeans by surprise.” For this reason, Macron proposes or hints that the French nuclear bomb also serves as an umbrella for EU member states.
This is how he expressed himself on this sensitive strategic point:
“In the coming months, I will invite all my European partners to build this European defense initiative… France will play its role as the most effective military on the continent, and we are also equipped with nuclear weapons. The deterrent power that nuclear weapons give us is at the heart of France’s defense strategy and is an essential element in the defense of the European continent. Thanks to this reliable protection, we will be able to build the security guarantees that all our partners expect in Europe”.
“We are at a turning point”, Emmanuel Macron continued, “which has caught us at a moment when “we are not armed to face these new risks”. “We have started an awakening”, believes the French president. “France itself has doubled its defense budget. (…) But, on a continental scale, this awakening is still slow, too weak in the face of the general rearmament of the world”.
Emmanuel Macron claimed that “Europe is in a situation of being surrounded by unbridled powers like Russia and Iran to name only them”. The third finding in the field of security is related to mass immigration, which is becoming a serious threat to EU countries. But Macron, without mentioning Italy or Great Britain, does not at all believe in the solution that Meloni has found by transferring part of the immigrants to Albania, although he does not mention his neighbor by name.
“I do not believe in the model that is being proposed to us today, which consists of finding third countries on the African continent or elsewhere, where people who come to us illegally will be taken. We are thus creating a geopolitics of cynicism that betrays our values and will be completely ineffective.”
