NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has announced a phone call with US President Donald Trump.

The conversation comes at a challenging time for the NATO alliance, where Trump has made provocative statements about European Union countries, urging them to invest more in defense – and the EU and the US had different resolutions regarding their approach to the war in Ukraine.

In this regard, Rutte says the allies are moving quickly to invest more in defense.

“It was great to speak with Donald Trump. The US and NATO are strengthening. NATO allies are moving quickly to invest more in defense. Significant increases are being announced, and more will follow.”

There was also discussion about support for Ukraine and security guarantees.

“For Ukraine, allies are preparing billions more in aid + contributions for security guarantees,” he wrote on “X.”
