U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Ukraine will ultimately join NATO as support for the country remains “steady” among the alliance’s member countries.
“Ukraine will join NATO,” Blinken told reporters in Brussels.
NATO’s eastward expansion is an obsession for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who declared war on Ukraine two years ago, stating his goal to prevent the alliance’s approach to Russia’s borders.
On the contrary, the war has mobilized NATO, which has again expanded with the membership of Finland and Sweden.
“In fact, relations today have fallen to the level of direct confrontation,” Peskov said.
