Serbian pro-government tabloid Alo has criticized opposition lawmaker Radomir Lazović after he referred to Kosovo as “a country in the region” during a parliamentary debate, accusing him of supporting recognition of Kosovo’s independence.
The comments were made during a session of the Serbian National Assembly in which Lazović criticized Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Snežana Paunović.
According to the report, Lazović stated that Paunović “came up with a way to solve issues in the region by displacing populations,” during which he referred to Kosovo as “a country in the region.”
The tabloid described the remark as a “scandal” and claimed it reflected Lazović’s political position on Kosovo, arguing that it showed he does not consider Kosovo to be part of Serbia.
The article also referenced Lazović’s previous public statements, alleging that he and his political allies are prepared to discuss the recognition of Kosovo’s independence.
The remarks come amid an increasingly polarized political climate in Serbia, where Kosovo remains one of the most contentious issues in domestic politics and parliamentary debates frequently trigger sharp exchanges between government and opposition representatives.
