A so-called “black box” set up by Serbia’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) appeared at Republic Square in Belgrade on Tuesday morning, displaying footage of protests and other confrontations involving the student-led movement and opposition lawmakers.
The improvised structure, covered in black banners, has previously been installed by the SNS at political gatherings in several Serbian cities. Its latest appearance comes two days before the students’ final pre-election rally scheduled to take place at Slavija Square.
Messages displayed on the exterior include: “Blockader Serbia. Months of violence, harassment, insults, threats and refusal to engage in dialogue. Let us never forget,” as well as, “They stopped our lives and tried to break Serbia. Let us never forget.”
Inside the darkened structure, footage is shown on multiple sides, including scenes from protests, a session of the Serbian parliament during which opposition lawmakers threw smoke grenades, and chants directed against Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
The same installation was placed near the Serbian parliament on June 27, when the SNS held a gathering under the slogan “Serbia, One Family.” It also appeared in the central square of Čačak in early October.
The installation is part of the political messaging ahead of Serbia’s parliamentary elections, which the report says are scheduled for Sunday.
