Former Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić has discussed Serbia’s relations with the West, its refusal to impose sanctions on Russia and its position on Kosovo’s independence in an interview with the Russian YouTube platform Ostorozhno, ahead of Serbia’s parliamentary elections.
Vučić described the issue of sanctions against Russia as the most important topic in Serbia’s relations with its international partners, saying that the country’s continued refusal to impose sanctions is raised at every meeting.
He also claimed that some people want him out of power because of his position on Kosovo, reiterating Serbia’s refusal to recognize the Republic of Kosovo as an independent state.
Vučić further accused Western countries of applying what he described as double standards when defending territorial integrity, drawing a comparison between Kosovo and Ukraine.
His remarks come amid continued tensions over Serbia’s foreign policy, particularly its efforts to maintain relations with Russia while pursuing ties with the European Union, and its ongoing dispute with Kosovo over recognition and sovereignty.
