Stjepan Mesić, the former President of Croatia, has been declared an Honorary Citizen of Gjilan.

This announcement came from Lutfi Haziri, Deputy Mayor and LDK MP, who stated that the initiative was taken by the LDK Group of Councilors and the Municipal Assembly Speaker.

Haziri emphasized that Mesić’s strong connection with Kosovo was forged by the late Historical President Ibrahim Rugova in the early 1990s.

“I first met him alongside President Fatmir Sejdiu during the negotiations for Kosovo’s final status, and I am eternally grateful for his support and advice on how to maximize this historic process,” Haziri wrote. “Gjilan needs the care of friends, who are growing in number every day under the LDK’s guidance. Not just friends, but guardians of Gjilan and Honorary Citizens!”
