The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo welcomes the decision by Kosovo’s President to return the Consumer Protection Law, approved by the Assembly of Kosovo on October 31, 2024, for further review in response to feedback from the American Chamber and other private sector organizations.
In its statement, the American Chamber expressed support for the President’s assessment that key provisions of the law in question conflict with the Constitution, the highest legal authority in the country, as well as other legal frameworks.
The Chamber emphasized its strong belief that the President’s decision aims to avoid legal conflicts and uphold the authority, responsibilities, and legal functionality of various institutions within the Republic of Kosovo.
“It is imperative that provisions regulating consumer protection are not linked to other regulatory aspects that do not primarily or specifically govern the field of consumer rights and protection, such as issues related to the environment,” the statement reads.
The American Chamber of Commerce believes that the return of this law for review will allow for consideration of the concerns and recommendations from private sector representatives and organizations advocating for consumer rights. This step demonstrates a commitment to inclusive efforts involving all stakeholders.
