Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, has announced that the capital city of Tirana will host a high-level ministerial meeting dedicated to Ukraine this June. The announcement followed a strategic meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, on May 12, 2026.

The meeting between the two top diplomats focused on the latest developments in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, European security architecture, and the deepening bilateral cooperation between Tirana and Kyiv.

Diplomacy Beyond the Boardroom

In a statement shared via the social media platform X, Minister Hoxha highlighted that modern diplomacy often occurs outside of formal settings. The two ministers utilized a travel window between official engagements to conduct what Hoxha described as a “fruitful and substantial exchange.”

Key Topics of Discussion:

  • Ending the Conflict: Coordination on diplomatic and strategic efforts to bring an end to the ongoing Russian aggression.
  • European Security: Assessing the broader challenges facing the continent’s security landscape.
  • EU Integration: Both ministers discussed their respective countries’ progress toward European Union membership, stressing the need to maintain reform momentum for a swift accession process.

Albania’s Unwavering Support

Minister Hoxha reiterated Albania’s steadfast commitment to Ukraine, noting that the country has stood firmly by Kyiv since the first day of the full-scale invasion.

“Albania has stood strongly alongside Ukraine from the first day of the brutal Russian aggression and will continue to support #Ukraine with unwavering dedication, in every way possible,” Hoxha stated.

The June Ministerial in Tirana

The upcoming meeting in June 2026 is viewed as a significant diplomatic milestone for the region. It aims to:

  1. Strengthen Regional Stability: Reconfirm the common commitment to peace and security in Southeast Europe.
  2. Coordinate Aid: Align regional efforts in supporting Ukraine’s defense and future reconstruction.
  3. Bilateral Relations: Further solidify the diplomatic and administrative ties between Albania and Ukraine.

The selection of Tirana as the host for this ministerial meeting underscores Albania’s growing role as a proactive diplomatic hub in the Balkans and a reliable partner within the Euro-Atlantic security framework.
