U.S. President Donald Trump will embark on a key diplomatic tour of the Middle East from May 13 to 16, visiting Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, the White House confirmed on Tuesday.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the president will hold bilateral talks with leaders in each of the three countries to “strengthen ties” between the U.S. and its regional allies.

“The president looks forward to this,” Leavitt told reporters. “He looks to strengthen the ties between the United States and these countries in which he will be visiting.”

🔹 Vatican Visit Before the Tour

The Middle East trip was initially planned as Trump’s first official foreign tour since returning to office in January. However, due to the death of Pope Francis, Trump will now first travel to Rome this weekend to attend the pontiff’s funeral. He is set to depart Washington on Friday and return Saturday.

🔹 Strategic Priorities

The Middle East visit comes at a pivotal moment as the U.S. seeks to reassert influence in the Gulf region, amid ongoing shifts in global alliances and evolving energy partnerships. While specific agenda items have not been disclosed, experts expect discussions to center around regional security, energy cooperation, and Iran’s role in the Gulf.

🔹 Nordic Relations Also in Focus

Prior to his departure for the Vatican, Trump will host Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at the White House on Thursday, marking the 13th foreign leader hosted since January.
