Donald Trump has said that the upcoming visit of King Charles III to Washington, DC will proceed as planned next week, despite the shooting incident that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Asked by Fox News whether plans had changed following the attack, Trump said the visit would go ahead and that he is looking forward to the meeting.
“First of all, King Charles is coming and he is a great man. We are really looking forward to it. He is truly a fantastic person and an extraordinary representative. And he is brave,” Trump said, referring to the king’s battle with cancer.
“He is also a longtime friend of mine. He is coming and we will have a great time. He represents his country like no one else,” the president added.
The comments come after last night’s shooting during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which has prompted widespread reactions and ongoing investigations in the United States.
