One of Turkey’s opposition leaders and the president of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ozgur Ozel, was attacked today in Istanbul.
Ozel had attended a commemoration for Syria Sureya Onder, a pro-Kurdish politician who passed away yesterday. Television footage shows that Ozel was struck in the head by an assailant waiting for him as he was leaving the event.
The police have confirmed that the suspect responsible for the attack on Ozel has been arrested, and fortunately, Ozel did not suffer any serious injuries.
