Jared Kushner, son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, is expected to meet today in Doha with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and other mediators, a White House official told CNN.

Delegations from the United States and Iran are arriving in Doha for technical talks, where they will discuss the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides.

These discussions differ from the high-level negotiations held earlier this month in Switzerland, where senior Iranian and U.S. delegations met face-to-face behind closed doors.

Kushner served as the chief Middle East negotiator during Trump’s first presidential term and developed close relationships with regional leaders. He has also informally advised administration officials during negotiations with Arab leaders, according to Trump administration officials and individuals close to Kushner who spoke to CNN last year.

Kushner played a leading role in shaping the Trump administration’s Middle East policy, including the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states.

After leaving the White House in 2021, Kushner founded the private investment firm Affinity Partners, which received $2 billion from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund. The United Arab Emirates and Qatar have also made substantial investments in the firm.

Kushner has previously denied that these investments constitute a conflict of interest. In an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes last year, he stated:

“What people call a conflict of interest, Steve (Witkoff) and I call experience and trusted relationships that we’ve built around the world.”
