Negotiations between the United States and Iran have begun in Switzerland, with the aim of reaching an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program, an issue that has strained international relations for years.
The U.S. delegation is led by Vice President JD Vance, who has joined Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Meanwhile, the Iranian delegation includes senior political and economic figures, among them Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as officials from the central bank and the oil sector.
Representatives from Pakistan and Qatar are also involved in the mediation process. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir are expected to play a role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.
According to reports, the parties have less than 60 days to reach an agreement on the technical details, which are considered highly significant for both the global economy and international security.
The negotiations follow a memorandum of understanding signed earlier between U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, which outlines the framework and timeline for achieving a final agreement.
