Ukraine has announced that its forces have struck a railway bridge, a power plant, and other key infrastructure targets in Crimea, as Kyiv’s military seeks to further isolate the strategically important peninsula held by Russia during the final phase of the four-year war.

The drone and missile strikes have intensified difficulties in the Black Sea peninsula, where Russian authorities have reportedly been forced to suspend fuel sales to civilians. Ukraine has stepped up its latest campaign aimed at disrupting supply routes and the power grid during the peak summer tourist season.

Crimea was forcibly occupied and annexed by Moscow in 2014.

Ukrainian long-range strikes have highlighted the country’s ability to inflict significant damage on Russian infrastructure and apply pressure on the Kremlin.

Ukraine has also targeted locations near Moscow and in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city.

Speaking about the increased Ukrainian drone attacks deep inside Russian territory, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that they aim to destabilize Russian society and create “a sense of insecurity regarding the actions of the armed forces.”
