Russian authorities reported a large-scale drone attack in the early hours of July 28, claiming that dozens of Ukrainian drones were heading toward Moscow.
A major fire broke out at an industrial facility in the Moscow region following the attack. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin initially announced that Russian air defenses had intercepted 12 drones approaching the capital. He later updated the figure, stating that an additional 21 drones had also been shot down.
Russia’s federal aviation agency, Rosaviatsiya, imposed temporary flight restrictions and suspended operations at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports as a precaution.
Images and videos circulating on social media showed drones flying over the area, along with thick smoke rising from multiple locations in the Moscow region.
According to reports shared online, one of the suspected targets was a tire recycling plant in the city of Chekhov, which processes used tires and produces recycled rubber materials.
Additional reports indicated that another strike targeted Wildberries warehouses in the village of Koledino. Wildberries is Russia’s largest online retail company.
