The United States Embassy in Pristina has commented on the recent closure of Serbian parallel institutions in Kosovo, stating that these issues should be managed through dialogue.
“The ongoing and uncoordinated actions by the Government of Kosovo to close Serbia-backed institutions directly and negatively impact the citizens of Kosovo—ethnic Serbs and other communities—and undermine Kosovo’s aspirations to join the Euro-Atlantic community,” reads the Embassy’s statement on X.
According to the US, these issues should be addressed through the EU-facilitated dialogue in order to advance normalization and Kosovo’s integration as a modern, multi-ethnic, European democracy, while also protecting the well-being of all its citizens.
The statement further emphasizes that the US has invested significantly in Kosovo, working in partnership with its leaders to achieve shared long-term interests.
“These uncoordinated actions, against our best advice, weaken the trust in relations and limit our ability to help Kosovo secure a better and brighter future for all its people,” the statement adds.
The US Embassy’s statement came following the Kosovo Police operation to shut down parallel Serbian structures in 10 municipalities on Wednesday. This action has sparked a series of international reactions, criticizing Kosovo’s institutions, particularly regarding the manner and timing of the closures.
