The EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, stated yesterday that the EU member states “are not taking lightly” Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s visit to Moscow for the Victory Day parade.
When asked in a press conference whether this visit would affect Serbia’s path to EU membership, Kallas responded that “when discussing the next steps, the member states have many questions.”
However, instead of this answer, Dutch MEP Thijs Reuten called for concrete actions from EU leaders.
He suggested that one of those actions could be the cancellation of the European Council President Antonio Costa’s visit to Serbia.
“When dealing with autocrats like Vucic, you have to think two moves ahead. So, I expect Kaja Kallas to have a plan. Before the ‘many questions’ from the member states, a proactive proposal to suggest that the European Council President cancel his visit to Belgrade would be a good start,” Reuten wrote.
Costa is scheduled to visit Belgrade on May 13 as part of a Balkan tour. He is expected to visit Pristina the following day.
