The Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) has invited the two opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), to propose three candidates for president, offering the full support of its MPs’ signatures and the withdrawal of the candidacies of Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Mulhaxha-Kollçaku.
In a statement issued on Saturday, LVV announced that during its Presidency meeting on Friday evening, it decided to take “another step with a new, concrete, and unifying proposal.”
In its invitation to the two opposition parties, LVV emphasized that the candidates should be unifying figures, with high integrity, and outside the current political scene.
“We invite PDK and LDK to jointly propose three names, from whom the new President can be elected by the 10th legislature. These three candidates must be unifying figures, with high civic and national integrity, with a proven contribution in professional and social life, and outside the current political scene. For all three, at least 90 signatures from MPs of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo would be secured. In that case, the candidacies of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Glauk Konjufca and MP Dr. Fatmire Mulhaxha-Kollçaku would be withdrawn in advance,” the LVV statement said.
The Assembly has a deadline until April 28 to elect the president; otherwise, Kosovo will head to new parliamentary elections. LVV said it expects a response from PDK and LDK by Sunday evening (April 26).
“A solution must be found, because it is possible. We must try and engage together, because it is our duty arising from the responsibility entrusted to us by the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo,” the statement concludes.
