Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak announced his resignation on Saturday, citing his inability to deliver the reforms he believes the country urgently needs.

In a message shared via social media, Bin Mubarak attached his formal resignation letter addressed to Rashad al-Alimi, the head of Yemen’s ruling Presidential Leadership Council, according to reports by the Associated Press.

Appointed in February 2024, Bin Mubarak stated that he stepped down due to the lack of progress on crucial state reforms and cabinet restructuring.

“I resign because I am unable to make the necessary decisions to reform the state and carry out the required cabinet reshuffle,” he wrote.

The Presidential Leadership Council has yet to comment on his departure.

Yemen remains mired in a civil war that began in 2014, when Iran-backed Houthi rebels seized the capital, Sana’a, driving the internationally recognized government into exile in Saudi Arabia.
