U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant stated that there is no reason for the U.S. and Chinese economies to decouple, despite ongoing tensions and the exchange of tariff threats between the two global powers.

Speaking on the matter, Bessant said that a “big agreement” could potentially be reached between Washington and Beijing.

“There is a lot of important work that could be done at some point,” said Bessant when asked about the risk of decoupling between the world’s two largest economies.
“There’s no reason for that to happen,” he added.

However, the Secretary noted that reaching an agreement with China would be more difficult compared to deals with other countries.
