Today marks 28 years since May 25, 1998, when Serbian forces entered Lybeniq in Peja, killing and massacring nine residents of the village, and later other men from the same community.
The genocide committed in this settlement against the innocent Albanian civilian population on May 25, 1998, as well as on April 1 and April 7, 1999, is considered one of the largest crimes committed by Serbian police, military, and paramilitary forces in Kosovo.
The head of the Kosovo Association of Historians “Ali Hadri,” Deçan branch, Shkodran Imeraj, previously stated that both domestic and international justice have failed to prosecute and punish the perpetrators of the massacres carried out in Lybeniq during 1998–1999.
According to Imeraj, the genocide committed by Serbian military, police, and paramilitary forces against the Albanian residents of Lybeniq represents the largest crime committed against the Albanian population in the history of the village.
