The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, extended his congratulations on the 18th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence, describing February 17 as a date of special significance for the Albanian nation.
In his message, Veliaj emphasized that February 17 serves as a powerful reminder that freedom is not given, but earned through sacrifice, resilience, and faith.
“Happy Independence Day, Kosovo! February 17 is not just a date – it is a reminder that FREEDOM is not given, but won through sacrifice, resilience, and faith. Today, more than ever, Kosovo deserves to celebrate with its head held high: for all those who fought and for every young person growing up with the flag and dignity,” he said.
Veliaj also highlighted the contributions of KLA fighters to the country’s liberation, expressing hope that the ongoing judicial process concerning them concludes with justice and their safe return to their families.
“And on this day, we also remember those who fought in battle so that Kosovo could be free – the leaders of the KLA. I still hope that their process will end with justice and the return of each to their home, in respect of truth, history, and Kosovo’s freedom,” Veliaj stated.
“Happy Independence Day, Kosovo – may you always be free!” concluded Veliaj.
