Kosovo police have reported the discovery and seizure of illegal weapons, ammunition, hand grenades, and other prohibited items in three separate incidents in the northern part of the country, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

The operations, coordinated in full with the State Prosecutor’s Office, are part of ongoing efforts to combat the illicit possession of arms in sensitive border areas. No arrests have been reported so far.

Key Details of the Seizures

  1. Jagnjenic, Zubin Potok – Officers inspected an uninhabited house and seized 95 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, a police emblem, and several shutters marked with Serbian Police insignia.
  2. Zhitkovc, Zvečan – During a morning operation at a deserted barn, authorities confiscated:
    • 1 AK-47 assault rifle
    • 1 M-57 hand grenade (Yugoslav-made)
    • 3 empty AK-47 magazines
    • 85 rounds of 7.9 mm ammunition
    • 2 military uniforms with Serbian insignia
    • 60 rounds for the AK-47
  3. Varage, Zubin Potok – Police discovered 1 hand grenade and 50 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition in another abandoned house.

In the latter two cases, units specializing in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) safely removed the grenades. All actions were taken in accordance with legal procedures under charges of “unauthorized possession or control of weapons.”

Broader Implications

While no individuals have been detained, these findings underscore persistent security concerns in northern Kosovo, where illegal arms caches continue to pose risks to public safety. Authorities encourage citizens to report any information to the police via hotline 192.

Security analysts note that such incidents, especially involving weapons marked with foreign police or military insignia, highlight ongoing challenges in maintaining stability along the Serbia-Kosovo border, and emphasize the need for vigilant law enforcement and cross-border cooperation.
