Prime Minister Albin Kurti addressed the Assembly of Kosovo during the solemn session for the UÇK Epopeya, looking up from his notes to speak directly to President Vjosa Osmani.
He began formally:
“Honorable President of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu…”
Kurti emphasized that the day was not only one of honor but also reflection on the path Kosovo has taken and the challenges ahead:
“Today we are a state of a freedom-loving people who have always stood on the side of justice.”
The session coincides with the constitutional deadline for electing the president, which ends tonight at midnight.
Regarding the political process, LVV formally rejected supporting Osmani for another term, despite her desire to continue as president. Instead, LVV nominated Glauk Konjufca.
For the Assembly session to proceed, a second candidate is required. LVV requested that the other candidate come from the opposition, but opposition parties refused, as it would make Konjufca’s election in the third round almost guaranteed, given LVV’s 61-vote majority.
Parliamentary group leader Arbërie Nagavci stated that LVV had offered Osmani the signatures to run, but she declined. The Presidency clarified that Osmani was offered the chance to run purely formally, but support was shifted to Konjufca.
